Proxy

« Back to Glossary Index

A proxy is a temporary right to vote on behalf of another person. It can also mean a person who holds that right.

In the California Democratic Party, a delegate to the state convention may give their proxy to another person. Based on how the delegate was elected or appointed, there are restrictions on who may serve as a proxy. A proxy only applies to one convention or eboard meeting and expires at the conclusion of the meeting or earlier if reclaimed by the delegate.

A proxy only represents the delegate for elections and on the convention floor at General Sessions. A proxy may not serve on behalf of the delegate at any committee or caucus meetings.
